Biography

James B. Hyman - Bio

 

Dr. James B. Hyman is a social scientist with extensive experience grappling with issues of persistent poverty and urban policy in areas such as: youth, community and economic development; community building; and prisoner reentry.

 

 

He has had experience in:

  • philanthropy – as Senior Fellow at the Phelps Stokes Fund, as President of the Freddie Mac Foundation, as Associate Director of the Annie E. Casey Foundation and as Program Officer at the Cleveland Foundation;
  • government service programs – as President of the Cleveland Private Industry Council;
  • policy research experience – as a Visiting Fellow at the Urban Institute, as President of the Social Policy Research Group, as Vice President of the Manpower Demonstration Research Corporation, and as Associate Social Scientist at the Rand Corporation;
  • senior government service – as Special Assistant to the Deputy Undersecretary of Education.

Since 1996, his consulting practice has been a vehicle for deploying the synergies of his varied experiences. Recent clients have included the California Endowment, the W.K. Kellogg and Annie E Casey Foundations, The World Bank, and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
